Elizabeth Gilbert shared her story in Union Sq.

Hey all!

Guess where I went last night after work?

Yes! Yes! from the title, you probably can guess: Elizabeth Gilbert book signing at Barnes & Noble UNION SQUARE (33 East 17th Street). I read her book couple of years ago when TIME Magazine listed Mrs. Gilbert as one of the world's most influentional people alongside the Dalai Lama and Macworld Tycoon, Steve Jobs.

Starts at 7 PM, the event is a casual meet&greet of her new book Committed: A Skeptic Makes Peace with Marriage. During the reading, she read couple of pages about how the Homeland Security or described as "Officer Tom" became her cupid of marriage with Felipe. I was touched by only several pages, Imagine if I read the whole book?! Personally, I had a difficult moment as well with the Homeland Security. I can somewhat relate to Mrs. Gilbert's story because these officers also took my Mother away when she tried to enter the U.S. due to visa's issues. I struggled my way of living (by myself.. of course!) without my parents in a new land, new family, new friends, and new comfort zone.

OH MY GOSH! why I become so EMOTIONAL all of the sudden? OK back to Mrs. Gilbert.... at the end of the event, she signed books for the audiences. Honestly, I was all shaky and nervous when I was in line for her authograph. The security had to console me because I was beyond excited!

Then I had my chance to stand right infront of her and casually chatted for 10 seconds! but that was the most precious 10 seconds of my life. I greeted her with Indonesian Language knowing that she spent sometime living in Bali. She was pretty impressed with my "Selamat Malam, Ibu." (trans. Good evening, Mam.) Then, I told her that I've been waiting for a moment like this! I said that I had initially bought a special Batik dress for her that I've been keeping for almost 2 years! But, unfortunately I didn't bring it with me. (trust me, I am willing to go the extra miles for someone whom I adore.) At any rate, Stupid meee.. I forgot to bring the Batik dress due to personal reasoning A.K.A. woke-up-late-to-work-cuz-chatted-with-boyfriend-for-long-latehours-! (Sorry love, I just have to blame you on this one! I'm still pissed, I forgot to bring the Batik.) hahaha!

I am such a huge fan of hers, especially after I read Eat, Pray, Love. Indeed, the book-turned-into-a-movie is a woman's bible phenomenon. EPL sold 6 millions in the United States alone and adding another 1 million overseas! Mrs. Gilbert said that she was taken completely by surprise that Julia Roberts will play her role in the upcoming movie. I am so hyped for the movie coming out this Summer, also knowing that Javier Bardem will play as Felipe! Who wants to come with me????? :)

Fallin' in love all over again with DANCING!

The quote above rings true for many different aspects of life because it can be define in various levels. However, I'd like to interpret this quote as it is. Dance is a form of movement to express our feelings and emotions. Personally, If I dance, I relieve my stress and reduce my anger! (I can be very-berry-bitchyy-girl you've evaa seen!) lmaoo.

I JUST LOVE DANCING! The reason I post this entry because I went to an event on January 4th at 8 PM called Movement Research at the Judson Church! Oh my Lord! what a beautiful experience I had. I was surrounded by dancers from around New York Areas: Uptown, Downtown, Midtown, you name it!

When I first got there, I was thinking to myself.. "..this is a very beautiful church, look at this Italian Renaissance interior! how lovely!" Then I found out that the 55 Washinton Sq. South Church is usually rent as an art/performance venue.

Then my admiration continued till the end of the dance performance... I'm AMAZED!
The evening featured performances by Jillian Peña, Tadashi Kato, Molly Lieber & Eleanor Smith, and Jennifer Monson & Yvonne Meier.

The first piece by Jilian Peña was somesort of icebreakers for the audiences. The four dancers (each with an ipod and headphone) pulled four audiences to perform with them. I love their slow languid movement and beautiful poses. For me, it was soothing in a way. For the most part, they dance without music but still manage to coordinate their chareograph.

I really like the second dancepiece by Tadashi Kato called "Beyond Intolerance". It potrayed the various forms of intolerance in the world. His footwork and body movement were breathtaking at times. I like how he used people's voices and form a dance to deliver the message.

The third performance was more upbeat with accompanying instruments (drum&organs).

Molly Lieber and Eleanor Smith performed a piece called "Hora" which is a traditional dance of Romania and Israel.. but of course, they put a modern twist in it!

Jennifer Monson & Yvonne Meier concluded the evening with their contemporary animal-like choreograph. They jumped, do the High kicks, Grand Plié / Demi-Plié, swings, twirl, and much much more!

Overall, I had a great experience watching them.. I like to go to dance shows but never really picture something like this. Fortunate for us New Yorkers, their shows will last till February! just keep it tuned to: http://www.movementresearch.org/

Twelfth month of the Gregarious (whoops, I mean Gregorian) Calendar

Dear readers,

So much has happened and I can't believe its December already! Time has passed by so fast...
Do you know that couple of days ago, nearly 10 inches of snow came on the last weekend before christmas. It was madness! Thankfully, I am done with exams and received my grades for the semester.. I am pretty pleased with my grades, hence, I decided to cancel my winter class cuz no need to burden myself for another one month of a class that is definetely not required for my graduation.

Anyhow, tho its freezing outside.. there are several events that will melt your heart away and of couse keep you warm like slurrpy hot coco.

(Btwn 1st & 2nd Ave) I like this place not only cuz they serve a bangin' yummy BBQ Tempeh but also the nice feelings that I usually get from here.

While waiting for the food, customers can show off their drawing skills on the placemats with the provided stationery. If you're lucky, your work of arts might get hang up on the wall. Their portions are huge and healthy! So it is all worth it!

Hey All,

I can't believe it's almost the middle of October already! I have two special birthday parties that I MUST attend. meh. (I wish my birthday is round the corner, so I can get lotsa lotsa giftss!)

Anywayyy, talking of gifts! I am currently saving up my mulahh to get myself or treat myself for something special.. (or anyone interested to buy it for me?) naahhhh, I don't think soo.. hence, I rather get it myself..

Where the Wild things in NYC?

Hey y'all..

Are you excited about the new movie coming out on October 16 called Where The Wild Things Are directed by Spike Jones? I remember pretty vividly I used to shiver, everytime I think of Max dancing with the grisly monsters in a wild rumpus.

As a child, I read repeatedly Maurice Sendak's masterpiece and coincidentally enough during my college year, I have to re-read the book and write an extensive term paper about the adventures as part of my minor class.

Lucky for us New Yorkers, The Big Apple will celebrate a long full week of this top notch classic children's book.

Below are the dates and places of where we can get a glimpse of the wild imaginations of Max:

• October 10-18, Brooklyn Children's Museum : Children are able to play the parts from the book as an interactive readings conducted as well.
  
• October 13, The New York Public Library : Join the film's stars like Forest Whitaker and Catherine Keener reading the book aloud to fellow Wild Things admirers of all ages!


• October 16, Children's Museum of the Art : Encourage your kids, nephews, nieces, or grandchildren to display (or more like showing off) artistic skills of their own interpertation of Max's journey in this special workshop.
  
• All year long : Experience the wilderness of New York City in some of the famous parks such as Bronx park (Don't forget to check out the beautiful river), Fort Tryon Park (come and visit the Cloister!), and of course Central Park (Beatles anyone? Strawberry field!)
